THE "LASER SHIELD"

There are two spots that the police will aim their laser gun at your vehicle. The best target to centre the cross hairs of the laser gun on, is the metal registration number. It is a vertical metal surface that is as good as a shinny mirror for returning invisible laser coalescent light. The other good target is your headlights. Unless they are covered witha laser absorbent material, they too are a good source of reflected laser light.

The trend is not to move away from radar gun and radar driven speed cameras and to move towards inplementing LIDAR - laser beam driven speed detection systems.

This is very evident in Western Australia, where by the end of 2010, all speed measurements will be done by laser technology. The technology often doesn't require consistent calibration and is seldom prone to errors like radar speed guns which are easily confused by radar reflections.
